The conversation went on like that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; So, you&#8217;re delving into wellness trends mr. guru?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Desperate times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Midlife crisis hitting hard?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; I guess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; So what is that you doin\u2019?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Gratitude practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Ha-ha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; They say gratitude is the simplest way to a better life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Oh really? Who says so?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; I dunno, some gratitude gurus I found online. But it\u2019s backed by science too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Yea? What does science say?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Science says, write three sentences a day over two weeks, and this is what you get: \u201ca better life\u201d. You see what you\u2019ve got.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Five minutes a day to happiness? C\u2019mon, too good to be true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Listen, look it up in Google scholar, tons of people tested it. All over the world. Wrote three sentences a day over two weeks. Good stuff comes out. Life feels better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; What\u2019s there to be grateful for? Headaches?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Up to you. Anything. Grateful the weather is decent. That the sun made an appearance. Grateful for Wi-fi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Ah-huh, grateful-for-a-sunny-day wellness mumbo-jumbo. Is that a piramid scheme? Who\u2019s mr. Sunshine on top?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; I am telling you, it\u2019s science. You train yourself in finding things that make your day suck less. Grateful folks are good at finding things that made their day suck less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; So, they think, \u201ccould\u2019ve been worse \u2013 I could\u2019ve died that day, but didn\u2019t\u201c?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Something like that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Y\u2019know, maybe there is something to it. Maybe writing you\u2019re grateful for bluetooth and satnav is going to turn you into a master, mr. yoda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gratitude:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grateful for a loyal dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grateful Emil greeted me like I had been gone for months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWrite daily entries.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eThank yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consistency level up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Martha called.
